The Gap #8: the book and the crowd disagree on Ankalaev, Magomed vs Guskov, Bogdan

This week's UFC card throws up a handful of genuine discrepancies between Polymarket's crowd and the crypto books — and a few traps that only look like value.

The fights

The clearest gap on the card sits in the light-heavyweight main event. Polymarket has Magomed Ankalaev beating Bogdan Guskov at 82.2%, while Duelbits's vig-stripped implied probability is 78.4% — a 3.8-percentage-point spread. In money terms, the book is paying 1.20 on a fight the crowd thinks is worth 1.22. That two-cent gap on a short-priced favourite is modest in absolute terms but consistent with a market where the book is lagging the crowd's confidence. If you're already looking for the best available number on Ankalaev, Duelbits is the place to find it before the line firms.

One step below that, the Temirov–Erceg flyweight contest shows the second-largest gap and is arguably the more interesting play. Polymarket prices Ramazonbek Temirov at 49.5% — effectively a coin flip — while Duelbits's stripped number sits at 45.8%, a 3.7pp difference. The book price is 2.06 against a crowd fair price of 2.02, so you're being offered fractionally better than what the market thinks is correct. On a near-even fight that's attracting genuine attention, that kind of edge is worth noting.

Rizvan Kuniev against Tyrell Fortune rounds out the top tier with a 3.4pp gap on Kuniev at 1.38 on Duelbits. The crowd and book land on the same fair price here — 1.38 — which means the entire edge comes purely from the probability gap rather than any pricing quirk. Valter Walker over Thomas Petersen (2.9pp, Stake, 1.55) and Magomed Zaynukov over Damian Rzepecki (2.1pp, BC.Game, 1.27) also clear the 2pp threshold, though Zaynukov is the weakest of the bunch and deserves less weight given the fair price sits 5 cents above the book price at 1.32 versus 1.27.

The skips

Several markets look tempting on paper but don't clear the bar. Ismael Bonfim at 2.60 on Duelbits shows a 2.0pp gap against Axel Sola, but the crowd fair price of 2.62 is almost identical to the book price — we're calling this borderline and not worth prioritising. Magomed Tuchalov at 1.14 on Stake shows only a 1.6pp gap, and at those odds the return simply doesn't justify it. Nurullo Aliev (1.5pp), Wellington Turman as an underdog (1.3pp), and Santiago Ponzinibbio (0.7pp) all fall well short — no edge on any of them.
